Busting limiting beliefs about working more online

Working more online now is VERY exciting for many of us;

That offer we’ve wanted to get out to the world but was always bottom of the list due to busy travel?

That service we wanted to remove ourselves a little from but still provide high value?

That group programme that would work perfectly on zoom, and with downloaded worksheets and automative payments?

Those people we couldn’t reach before because we focused on our local area, face to face, only?

All far more possible when focusing on meeting, greeting and working online with them.

But one thing that can feel difficult is knowing where to sell those things, where to talk about those things, and how.

First I do want to say this; working online full stop isn’t new for any of us – if you’re reading this you’re online for business in some way already.

You might be pivoting a part of your business right now to manage whilst we’re in the pandemic, and fully intending to go back to more off line afterwards.

Or you might might be wanting to totally move everything online, and that online looks part passive and part live programmes.

Or you might be fully online now, and simply want to improve your processes and offers to reach even more or more of the right, people.

(You may also be exhausted and overwhelmed – I get it. Let’s assume you’re reading this because you’re able to do something in your business right now. For the rest of you, I hear you. Please take your time and come back when you’re ready).

Whichever it is, you’ll benefit from this diagram (and drawing your own out too)

I shared this diagram in my masterclass last week, and it really resonated.

Essentially it’s a sales funnel right?

But it breaks down a version of how we might see how people move from our external places (like public social media), through to our internal spaces (like our email list, FB group, mini workshops etc), through to becoming a paid customer, and even returning.

When we think about working online MORE, in service based businesses in particular, we can fear a lot:

  • That we have talk about our thing everywhere, shout about it even

  • Being judged for talking about ‘ourselves’ (when talking about our business)

  • Worried about looking like a failure

  • Looking desperate for clients

However, this diagram, and the way I help my clients work, that becomes something very different.

Because we’re reminded in this process that there’s many ways to talk to ‘our people’ – and external social media is just ONE of them.

We might instead, or at least also, do SO much more, and be MUCH more effective lower down the triangle / sales funnel⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Running a business online, we can feel like we have to spend a lot of time at the top, which CAN be true in some cases, but if we think it’s where we have to spend all our time, then we miss the point of nurturing beautiful relationships with people we’re really connecting with, with people who need us and see our value, with people who we can really have an impact with longer term. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

In ordinary times, the top of the funnel might have a lot of other stuff in it, like in person networking and events and conferences, and in this example I haven’t even included the online versions of these, which absolutely count. But it’s a representation of a route we might be taking, and how you can see where you’re spending a lot or little of your time and what’s having an impact for your business when you’re aiming to have customers, and returning ones, at the end of it.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Sometimes when we think of working online, or going more online we can imagine we have to have complicated layers and processes that our audience goes through. When we don’t.

We resonate with humans, and stories, and authenticity.

So automations and layers of non-interaction stop that from getting through and finding the connections we crave.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Save or share this image so you know where you want to spend time and how you can provide the best value for your audience right through to your returning customers.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
